The Question of Money and Reiki ''); ?>

I have seen that some seem to criticize the cost of Reiki classes, claiming that it is a “cash cow”. This seems to imply that Reiki teachers are only out for a buck. This is not at all the case.

True we are all made of the same energy and interconnected, but we are also unique individuals. Some people learn better by sight, others by hearing, and others by doing. We cannot all be clumped into one category. Some may prefer to learn on their own at home, while others may prefer to attend a workshop with others. Either way is fine. One of the core teachings of Reiki is non-judgment.

So why does it cost so much more for in person learning. Easy…Overhead is one big reason. Rent or leasing of space. Then there is the issue of carrying enough liability insurance. Yes, carrying liability insurance in order to teach on location anywhere is a good idea and often required. It’s also a good idea to carry it if giving sessions to others.

Next, there is the teacher’s time. There is preparation for the class, advertising, materials for the class, travel to and from the class, as well as time teaching the class. As you can see this begins to add up.

It is also accepted that the more you practice Reiki the stronger you become as a channel of it. It is like anything, the more you practice, the better you become. So if you wish to be the best you possibly can, doing it full time is necessary.

So now, if you do it full time you need to be sure you are making a decent income and able to pay your bills, or get your needs met. Always struggling to make ends meet, being afraid of charging too much, does not make you the best possible you, you can be. So it can actually affect the flow of Reiki/Energy you are capable of channeling, if you are lacking/unhappy in some area of your life.

It is also true that because everything is energy, that money is just another form of energy. So by charging for your Reiki sessions it merely become an exchange of energy. Some believe that it is actually a disservice to the client not to charge them for a session. Some say that by not charging them you are creating an unbalanced exchange of energy that can cause the session not to have as great an effect for the client. Of course working on a sliding scale or even a barter system can be an effective way of creating a balanced exchange of energy too.

It also, is best to know that there is always more than enough to go around. So there is never any reason to judge the way others choose to learn,  to teach, or to conduct sessions. Being tolerant of others and knowing that we are all where we need to be right now.
